Renovation that starts by understanding the house

Every renovation project has different conditions. An older house may hold earlier repairs, worn timber details, rot damage or structures that need reinforcing before the visible work can be finished. Aldas works methodically and adapts the solution to the structure, condition and style of the house.

That can mean restoring an older veranda, replacing damaged timber, repairing parts of the facade, building new joinery details or carrying out larger interior and exterior renovations.

The goal is not just to make it look good – the work behind the surface has to be properly done too.

Before, during and after

See how the work takes shape

In a renovation the finished result matters, but the process often says even more about the quality of the work. Here is an earlier veranda project through several stages – from the old structure to new posts and replacement details matched to the house.

Where parts can be kept, they are kept with care. Where the timber is too far gone it is replaced with new parts matched to the existing structure and the character of the house.

Preserving the character

Renovating an older house takes more than standard solutions

Older houses often contain details that no longer exist as standard products. Profiled posts, fretwork railings, ornaments, architraves and other joinery details may need repairing or making from new so the finished result sits properly with the original building.

With solid hands-on joinery experience, Aldas can repair, adapt and recreate many kinds of timber detail rather than automatically replacing everything with modern standard parts.

Details that demand real craftsmanship

Repairing and remaking timber details can be decisive in preserving the character of an older house.

When the damage is behind the surface

Rot damage and structural repairs

In older houses damage is sometimes only found once cladding, railings or other parts come off. Rot, damaged timber or problems around the foundation and its junctions have to be dealt with before the house goes back together.

Aldas has experience of work where parts of the structure need repairing or replacing before the visible renovation can continue.

A lasting result sometimes means solving the problem at its root – even when that work is never seen afterwards.

Facade, veranda and exterior details

Renovation that suits the character of the house

Exterior renovation has to protect the building and suit its architecture. Aldas works with timber facades, verandas, entrances, railings and other exterior details where proportion, material and finish are a real part of the result.

When renovating an older house the aim can be to keep as much of the existing character as possible while worn or damaged parts are replaced.

Larger renovation projects

From single repairs to extensive renovation

Some projects are a veranda or a few damaged timbers. Others cover far larger parts of the house. Aldas can take on renovations where several trades have to be coordinated – facade, joinery, structure, entrance, window details and other parts of the building.

That breadth of experience makes it possible to see the whole and find practical solutions even when a project changes as the work goes on.

Interior renovation

Renovation on the inside too

Renovation is not only about the outside of the house. Aldas also takes on interior projects where rooms need stripping out, rebuilding or adapting ahead of new finishes and fittings.

Depending on the project the work can cover joinery, walls, floors, structural details and other parts of the renovation.

Smaller projects get the same care

Not every renovation has to be large. A new entrance, a stair, a railing or a small timber structure can make a real difference to both function and appearance.

Aldas takes on both larger renovations and smaller building and joinery jobs depending on the scope and scheduling of the project.
